A soundtrack over a film excerpt from Transformers (2007) provided by the university. The sound track required me to create an original Music score, Sound effects and Automated dialogue replacement.

This was achieved utilising a mix of sound effects from the BBC Sound Effects Library as well as extensive recorded sound captured with a variety of recording techniques including basic mono, a stereo XY pair using two Neumann KM185s and a surround Hamasaki square using 4 AKG C414s set to bi-directional polar patterns. Surround recordings were made as the assignment required me to create both a stereo and 7.1.2 surround export of the soundtrack. Some sounds recorded included Saw blades for the metal scorpion as well as footsteps and impact sounds using a Shotgun mic on Weymouth Beach.

The musical score was composed using mainly orchestral midi instruments with some more electronic elements coming in when the robots are on screen to represent their mechanical nature. Two simple leitmotifs were created, one for the humans and one for the robots which is more dissonant. These are featured al throughout, undergoing changes in scale and tempo to correspond to the actions on screen allowing certain actions to line up to the music's rhythm.

The ADR Voice overs were the primary need for mono recordings, being primarily centred with some walla dialogue being panned around the stereo and surround fields.

The report for this assignment was documented as voiceovers against the finished soundtrack detailing what was achieved.
