This "before & after" video (June 23-25) will hopefully bring added attention to exposing and maintaining the natural beauty potential that exists along the Walking Trail, particularly between 3rd & 4th Streets ... because of its large TREES. Cleaning up the heavy undergrowth (and often accompanying overhead growth of vines) will open up to view and appreciation the large multi-trunk & close-grouped trees (elms, hackberries, cotton woods, etc) whose limbs hang completely over the trail and provide it shade. This week's effort has been concentrated on a large multi-trunk elm tree located on trail's south side and about 15' in front of chain-link fence surrounding Des Arc's Water Treatment Lime Pit (a separate and direly-needed "clean-up" project)
Because the terrain around this tree was too steep to manually clean up undergrowth, working from Walking Trail downhill; it was necessary to clear an access "path" to tree from behind, on the level area next to chain link fence.
It was happily realized that much of the chain-link fence is screened (at least during growing months) from view by the vines spreading along top of fence . . . and which should be left to continue their further spread & screening of fence.
The temporary "path" disappeared as such, soon as the sloped area between 'path' and walking trail was cleaned up . . . broadening the trail's width and view, which can be seen in video.
NOTES:
1. Video purposely ends, not on Walking Trail but on adjacent back yard of the C.J. & Dean Walls family (since 1945), showing that both properties ("back yard" and "walking trail"), are not only physically connected, but visually merged and mutually enhanced or impacted by the other.
2. The same is true for other adjacent properties, such as the Ferrellgas property.
