Students rightly spend an incredible amount of time learning about fictional or past events, but little to no time learning about the basic realities of the present. The consequences are catastrophic, while the benefits of infusing current events and issues across the curriculum are extraordinary. My TEDx Talk will call for a revolution in how we develop our citizens.

Ada McKim is a former high school teacher of Canadian Law and World Issues. During a sabbatical in 2017, she arranged meetings at the UN and co-founded the Global Goals Educator Task Force. It’s mission: to promote and support the use of the inspiring UN Sustainable Development Goals within schools, organizations, and education events. This team of #TeachSDGS teachers has members from all continents and has partnered with multiple UN bodies and The World’s Largest Lesson. In 2018 Ada will speak on the subject to hundreds of teachers and thousands of students at the Global Student Leadership Summit in London, Ontario. Ada is also the part-time editor of What in the World? and The Global Times -- current events resources for students across Canada and the United States. The passion for global education stems from a 2010 class project that morphed into a fifty school network linking learners from North America and Uganda via Skype.
