Rooms and floors that are over top of garages are often freezing when it is cold outside. The reason is because they were not properly insulated when the home was built. The fiberglass insulation is almost never in direct contact with the floor above, allowing an air gap and with it convection currents. This gap, combined with fiberglass' inability to stop cold air from infiltrating through the exterior wall rim joists (and filling the gap), is what makes floors and rooms that are above garages cold. This video is all about solving cold floors that are over top of garages.

In this video we demonstrate how our dense pack cellulose insulation process permanently solves this problem. We first demonstrate our more common approach, which entails drilling a series of holes in the garage ceiling from below and then dense packing it with cellulose insulation. Next we demonstrate how this process looks when we perform the same solution -- but from the room over top of the garage -- in a different home. We show this second home because it allows you to see how effectively the fill tube slides over the fiberglass insulation that is already in the ceiling, and also how tightly the cellulose insulation gets packed against the underside of the floor.
Tightly packing cellulose insulation into the gap between the existing fiberglass insulation and the floor is what 1) air seals the rim joists on the exterior walls, eliminating air infiltration there and 2) keeps the new insulation pressed tightly against the floor above (which is what is required for ANY insulation material to work effectively.

For making floors above a garage warm, there is simply no better solution than dense pack cellulose insulation.
