CDA's Illegal Land Grab: A Tale of Disregard for Court Orders and Landowners' Rights

In a shocking display of disregard for court orders and landowners' rights, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is attempting to take possession of land in Sector E-12, Islamabad, without providing rightful compensation to affected landlords.

The saga began in 1985 when CDA acquired land for Sector E-12, promising to provide compensation to landowners. While some received payment for their land, many were left without Build Up Property (BUPs) and rehabilitation compensation.

In 2021, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ruled in favor of the landowners, ordering CDA to provide compensation at current market rates and refrain from displacing people in the area. However, CDA has chosen to defy the court's decision, appealing to the Supreme Court instead.

Despite the Supreme Court's ongoing review of the case, CDA is pushing forward with its plans to develop Sector E-12, leaving landowners in a state of uncertainty and agitation.

Today, landowners took to the streets to protest CDA's illegal actions, urging the Supreme Court to take notice of this blatant disregard for court orders.

They demand that CDA:

Respect court orders: Immediately halt all development activities in Sector E-12 until the Supreme Court reaches a decision.
Provide rightful compensation: Ensure that all affected landowners receive fair compensation at current market rates.
Uphold landowners' rights: Recognize and protect the rights of landowners, rather than prioritizing development interests.
