About one-hundred French students went on the rampage after a student march in which protestors clashed violently with riot police.

An estimated 25-thousand students marched through the capital's streets Thursday demanding better conditions in universities across the country.

The worst violence occurred at one of Paris' largest universities -- Jussieu university.

About one hundred students went on the rampage today following a day of violent clashes between students and riot police.

The riot began as a demonstration at one Paris's largest university - Jussieu -- came to an end.

A small group of students blocked the doors of the university with furniture.

In the street, students set a newspaper kiosk on fire, smashed phone boxes and overturned cars while inside the college, protesters broke furniture and threw stones through the windows.

Masked students brandished red flags and threw bottles and stones at the police who responded with tear gas grenades as an estimated 25-thousand students demonstrated across the capital.

The students are demanding the immediate expenditure of an additional 2 (b) billion francs (400 million dollars) on conditions in universities and colleges.

The sum is 10 times what the government promised to upgrade overcrowded universities and hire more teachers.

There were no reports of injuries.
