Teaching on the Mind

Lama Yeshe House, June 2021.

Teachings with Venerable Robina Courtin on the mind, including the following:
The word mind is used synonymously with the word consciousness. The brain is the physical indicator of what goes on in the consciousness, consciousness in it's nature isn't physical, it's not a function of the brain, it depends on the brain, but it's not itself the brain. Mind is beginningless and endless, it isn't created, it's a continuity of mental moments, a continuum.

What is our potential, every mind just naturally possesses the potential to be rid of all delusions and the development to perfection of all the goodness.

The job of being a Buddhist is to recognise and identify, unpack and unravel, and eventually get rid of completely all the neurotic deluded misconception states of mind that are the cause of all our suffering, the cause of why we harm others, and Buddha has found from his own experience that these are not at the core of our being and thus can be removed.

Merely believing is intellectual laziness, and it won't help you, to experience the truth of these things, if it is valid, first it has to be coherent intellectually.

Questions include compassion in relation to karma, subtle consciousness, rebirth in relation to Buddhas, the antidote to indifference, joyful effort, depression, and duality.
