Monze district has been hit with a shortage of water following the 2024 EL Nino drought.

Dstrict commissioner for Monze, MWANZA MALAMBO says the few water bodies found in the district have all dried up, a situation he described as disaster to humans and animals.

He has since appealed to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Initiatives on Climate Resilience (ClimBeR), to help drill more boreholes to save lives of people and animals.

Mr. MALAMBO said this when a team of experts on climate change from India lead by technical staff from the Ministry Agriculture and the Metrological Department paid cutes call at his office.

Meanwhile RAJBIR SINGH who is delegation leader says his team is here to assist the Zambian government in providing platforms for knowledge exchange and capacity building through consultative meetings.

Prof. SINGH says findings from the consultative meetings will be included in the Drought Contingent Plan for Zambia to be used in building resilience for climate change.

And farmers from Chongwe and Monze district have appealed to government and its partners for quick interventions that will enable them accesses to water for Irrigation.
