A common issue for solar panel and home battery owners is that their EV charger draws power from the battery overnight — instead of using cheaper grid electricity. This video explains why it happens and how to fix it.

🔧 Reason 1: Wiring Configuration
If your EV charger is pulling power from your home battery when it shouldn’t, it may be due to how it’s wired.

💡* Wiring Tip for Installers*
To prevent battery drain:

Use a Henley block to split the meter tails

One tail should feed the EV charger directly

The other should supply your consumer unit, solar inverter, and home battery

Why it matters: If the charger is wired into the same tails as your battery, it may “see” the battery first and draw from it — even when cheaper grid electricity is available. Proper wiring ensures your charger behaves as expected and preserves your battery for daytime use.

⚙️ Reason 2: Inverter Settings

Set your battery to charge from 11:30 pm to 6:00 am
