Betaal narrates Anusuya’s story. Anusuya tells Rishi Kardam that she wishes to marry Rishi Atri. Rishi Kardam performs Anusuya’s ‘Vaagdaan’ and asks her to find Rishi Atri on her own. Couple of years later, when Anusuya finds him, he asks her to wait until he completes his penance. Anusuya awaits his return for a century and becomes a Banyan Tree. On learning this, Rishi Atri gives her a blessing since she makes him god. Sarasvati, Lakshmi and Parvati get offended when Narad praises Anusuya.
