After a 7 hour bus ride from Guatemala City, I arrived in Guatemala's largest Caribbean city. Puerto Barrios and coastal regions of Izabal are different from the rest of Guatemala due to its history as a booming port and it's diversity. I spoke with several natives of Puerto Barrios, including a Garifuna baker and a former U.S. Marine. Puerto Barrios is complex due to its relationship with the United Fruit Company, now Chiquita and its Garifuna people.
