The median of a dataset is found by sorting the dataset in either ascending or descending order and finding the middle point. If there are two numbers at the middle of the dataset then the median is the average of those two numbers.

When a dataset has an even amount of elements then there will be two middle numbers after sorting. If a dataset has an odd amount of elements then there will be one number in the middle after sorting.

The advantage of median over mean is that the dataset isn't affected by very small or large outliers.
