Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs' Weekly Update.

TRANSCRIPT:

“It’s Friday. Time for another weekly update.

This week, I helped cut the ribbon at the City West Apartments in Turkey Creek and at the expansion of Southeast Restoration.

Our School-Based Dental Program is holding free dental screening visits for children throughout June. There are still appointments available. Please call 865-215-5131 for more information.

Knox County’s Park and Play Program continues to roll right along. The program is designed to expand recreation and wellness across Knox County and boasts a number of individual and staff-led activities, including hula hoop, jump rope, chalk, and some water-based relay games. The events, which are held each Thursday at a different park through Aug. 1, are always free and open to the public. Additionally, they feature options for all ages and abilities. The full schedule of locations can be found on the Parks’ website.

If you’re looking for something the whole family can do this summer, check out our Second Saturday Concert Series, which we kicked off last weekend at the Cove at Concord Park. The next concert is on Saturday, July 13, and features Matt Woods and the Natural Disasters. We encourage folks to bring their own food, lawn chairs, drinks, and blankets. Please remember we do not allow alcohol in our parks.

Even though summer is upon us, Read City USA is still going strong. Check out the library’s website for information. And don’t forget, the Friends of the Library is hosting a used book sale at the Cedar Bluff Library on June 28th and 29th. Proceeds from the sale benefit the library system and there are a lot of bargains with most items costing $2 or less.

Good luck to the top-ranked University of Tennessee baseball team as they take on Florida State tonight at the College World Series in Omaha.

And happy Fathers Day to all the dad’s out there. Funny thing, my family always wants to grill out on Father's Day, and guess who gets to do the cooking? You guessed it, good ole dad here.

Until next Friday, I hope everyone has a great week.”
