There's less than 12 hours to the Economic Freedom Fighters National Shutdown.

On Friday EFF leader Julius Malema said the protest to highlight concerns around the nation's energy crisis and to call for the resignation of President Cyril Ramaphosa, would begin at 1 minute past twelve.

Big business meanwhile says companies will be open for business. While police in the provinces say they're ready for any eventuality.

At the same time Presidency Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says while the president acknowledges the rights of citizens to protest, there are laws which must be respected always.
Magwenya was briefing the media earlier.
