Boone Hall Plantation - Gullah Theater

Описание к видео Boone Hall Plantation - Gullah Theater

The Boone Hall Plantation is located a little east of Charleston, South Carolina. After entering via the 3/4 mile long dirt road bounded by a canopy of enormous live oaks, one passes by small brick buildings before seeing the mansion. The brick buildings are former slave cabins, preserved for insight into Black American history. The admission price includes the Gullah Theater. On this day, Ms. Veronica Gaillard sang and spoke of the Gullah culture of the South Carolina low country, to which she belongs. She also talked about spirituals that had code words telling the otherwise carefully-watched enslaved peopled that an imminent escape to freedom was about to occur, or that it was to be cancelled. Here's a snippet of her strong performance, followed by a short walk about the floral grounds. No photographs of the mansion's interior were allowed.

We hope you are motivated to visit this intriguing place, which went through several iterations as a farm for growing cotton and the indigo dye plant, then a brick manufacturing facility, briefly a business for breeding race horses (one of whom was a parent to a few triple crown winners, such as Secretariat), growing pecans, and now is a large farm and historic site. Wild turkeys and alligators are visible onsite. More about it is at https://www.boonehallplantation.com/
