There are various elements to the spacesuit. The astronaut's chest is covered by the Hard Upper Torso. The gloves are attached to the arm assembly, which covers the arms. The Primary Life Support Subsystem backpack is located on the back of the spacesuit. The oxygen that astronauts need to breathe while on a spacewalk is in this backpack. It removes carbon dioxide that astronauts exhale. The suit's electricity is likewise supplied by the backpack. The Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment's cooling water is stored in a water tank, while a fan circulates oxygen through the spacesuit and life support equipment.
A SAFER device, short for Simplified Aid for Extravehicular Activity Rescue, is also fastened to the rear of the suit. The SAFER contains a number of tiny thruster jets. An astronaut may utilise SAFER to return to the space station if he or she got lost from it.
