Often forgotten in the annuls of British steam locomotive history, much can truly be owed to the mighty Princess Royal Class of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, as despite their purposeful looks, these machines helped to break a long-flawed locomotive policy by delivering the necessary power and endurance to travel one of the toughest routes on the UK network, powering the famous Royal Scot expresses, and in their preservation years even coming to represent Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, for which one of these engines was appointed her namesake
