Is there Western Dominance in IR? at Global South Adda

Описание к видео Is there Western Dominance in IR? at Global South Adda

While most discussions on western dominance in IR focus on the 'why and how' questions, in this episode of the Global South Adda, we ask whether the question itself is Eurocentric. Drawing on the work of Dr. Karen Smith and Dr. Audrey Alejandro, we discuss the differences and commonalities of IR Scholarship in South Africa, Brazil and India. How should Europeans engage with non-western scholarship? Why is there a need for a Global South textbook? How diverse -- geographically and generationally --are IR traditions in South Africa, Brazil and India? What are the affects of internationalisation on Global South IR Scholarship? And how do the two scholars engage with the social dimensions of their teaching and research?

Guests:
Dr. Karen Smith (University Lecturer, Leiden University, and Special Advisor to the UN Secretary General on the Responsibility to Protect)

Dr. Audrey Alejandro (Assistant Professor, London School of Economics)

Host: Vineet Thakur (University Lecturer, Leiden University)
