नवरात्रि के पांचवें दिन की सबको बहुत-बहुत शुभकामनाएं।नवरात्रि के पाँचवें दिन स्कंदमाता की पूजा की जाती है।माँ स्कंदमाता देवी दुर्गा का पाँचवाँ अवतार हैं । स्कंदमाता शब्द दो शब्दों से मिलकर बना है- स्कंद तथा माता । स्कंद, भगवान कार्तिकेय का दूसरा नाम है,कार्तिकेय भोलेनाथ और पार्वती मां के पुत्र और गणेश जी के भाई है। माता का अर्थ है माँ और इस प्रकार स्कंदमाता का अर्थ है कार्तिकेय की माता। अतः स्कंदमाता मां पार्वती का एक रूप है।
स्कंदमाता रूप में देवी दुर्गा की चार भुजाएँ हैं। वह एक हाथ में कार्तिकेय (स्कंद) को पकड़े हुए है, दूसरे और तीसरे हाथ में कमल रखती है और चौथे हाथ से भक्तों को आशीर्वाद देती है। वह शेर की सवारी करती है और कमल पर विराजमानहै, जिस वजह है से उन्हें पद्मासना भी कहा जाता है। कार्तिकेय को दक्षिण भारत में मुरुगन के नाम से जाना जाता है। वह देवताओं की सेना के प्रधान सेनापति है।स्कंदमाता विशुद्ध-चक्र की अधिष्ठात्री देवी हैं।विशुद्ध-चक्र हमरे गले के उभरे हुए भाग के ठीक नीचे स्थित होता है। मां स्कंदमाता की पूजा करने से विशुद्धि चक्र जागृत हो जाता है जिसके प्रभाव से व्यक्ति को वाणी की सिद्धि प्राप्त हो जाती है, आयु मैं वृद्धि होती है और व्यक्ति विद्वान होता है। स्कंदमाता की आराधना से सोलह कलाओं और सोलह विभूतियों का ज्ञान हो जाता है। कार्तिकेय के जन्म की एक रोचक कथा है।
