Functional Performance Upgrade: The Rugged Ridge dual battery relay kit is for 1987 – 2017 Jeep Wrangler YJ, TJ and JKs. The relay kit, or sometimes referred to as an isolator kit, is designed to connect two batteries and provide a form of controlling the power to/from each battery to avoid one discharging the other. While in the “Off” position the Jeep will run like it did from the factory on the main battery. Turning the switch to the “Green” position will activate the charging function, where the secondary battery begins to charge for usage later. The “Red” position activates the secondary battery, this is useful during winching when the engine is off or to start the Jeep if the primary battery has been fully drained. Running two batteries on your Jeep is beneficial if you need to run accessory lighting or an on-board refrigerator while camping and don’t want to keep the engine running over night. An additional battery would handle the power requirements needed to maintain those accessories without the engine and still offer the power needed to start the engine later. Dual batteries aren’t necessary to run accessories while the Jeep’s engine is running, the alternator will have a bigger role in that situation. It’s important to note that the kit comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
 
Heavy-Duty Construction: The Rugged Ridge dual battery relay kit includes a high-powered isolator relay; A dual position switch to control the functions of charging and activation of the second battery; Battery cables to connect the positive terminals; Post clamps and hardware.
 
Bolt-On Installation: The installation is straightforward, you will start by running the positive terminals from the main and second battery to the relay, followed by the wiring to the control switch. Overall the installation should take about an hour to complete with basic hand tools.
