Grayson kitchen cart swivel wheel problem

Описание к видео Grayson kitchen cart swivel wheel problem

This brief video accompanies a review of the "Glidden Premium Grayson Small Chrome Metal Kitchen Microwave Cart with Natural Wood Top and Locking Wheels (24" W), Grey", and demonstrates a problem with the locking wheels.

First, the locking mechanism is difficult to operate. Second, while the locks prevent the wheels from rolling, they still swivel, so the cart can move a couple of inches in any direction. This becomes a nuisance when pushing the "door open" button on your microwave, or vigorously mixing something in a bowl.

Full review:
Sturdy, decent looking, and functional appliance/storage cart, but not for food prep.

The Grayson Chrome Metal Kitchen Microwave Cart is pretty good looking until you get right up close, at which point you can see the thin chrome and poor welds. But for the price, that’s understandable. It works. It’s solid. (I sat on it, and it didn’t flinch!) It’s flexible in terms of configuration: the handle and hanging hooks can be adjusted to different heights independently. The baskets are sturdy and spacious and can be set at several heights, although the process of adjusting height isn’t easy. It’s best to get the basket heights the way you want before firmly setting them in place (see below for assembly tips). Note that while the components have height adjustability, the overall cart does NOT. My wife found the cart slightly too tall for comfortable use, but she is 5’2”. I had no problem with it at 5’7”.

A couple of negatives: 1) The description suggests the wood top can be used for food prep, but since it’s varnished, just don’t use it as a cutting board. 2) The locking wheels are very hard to lock, and while they prevent the cart from rolling away, the wheels still swivel a bit when locked, which allows the cart to move about 2” in all directions. (See video.) This is a problem whether you intend to keep the cart in the middle of the kitchen or against a wall. All it takes is a slight bump, and the wheels will end up scuffing the baseboard or wall. Worse than that, if you’re using it to hold an appliance, like a microwave, just opening and closing the door can cause the cart to move.

Assembly is simple, the instructions are decent, and the only tool you need is the included hex key. If you have one handy, a rubber mallet helps to set the baskets, handles, and top into place. Heights are set and adjusted via tapered, two-piece black plastic “collars”. Look inside the collar pieces and you’ll see (or feel) ridges that mate with the grooves in the legs (see pic). Set them all at the same height then lower the basket onto them. It helps to have someone hold the basket while you do this. Once you’re sure you like the height, press down hard to set. The mallet does a much better job and is useful to tap the basket upward if you need to change the height. But once you like the arrangement you won’t need to do this again.

The carton measures 7” x 21” x 29” and weighs about 35 lbs.

Hard to recommend given that the locking wheels don’t keep the cart stationary, but if you’re on a budget and need a kitchen utility cart, this is worth considering.
