This powerful question is asked by Jon Alexander at the end of his seminal book, 'CITIZENS - why the key to fixing everything is all of us.'

In August 2024, Goodlife Collective & ThinkPlace co-hosted their first 'Exploring the New' event: 'Evening in conversation with Jon Alexander' -
the first of an ongoing series designed to (re)connect people with each other, with agency, inspiration and hope; and with meaningful ideas. Thank you to Voice of Aroha for supporting the event.

In Citizens, Jon presents a new story for humanity, one that can underpin the positive transformation we need going forward. His book - and this talk - are packed with inspiring examples of citizen participation transforming the world for the better.

Jon, 'repentant adman', excelled in advertising before the realisation of the machine he was a cog in - 'bombarding people with 3,000 ads per day' led him to eschew the marketing world. He went on to complete three masters degrees, in the pursuit of a deeper understanding of the truth of who we are as a society.

In 2014 he co-founded the New Citizen Project, "a participation strategy and innovation consultancy with a belief that, given the right opportunity, people can and will shape the things that matter to them for the better."

Jon Alexander kindly agreed to join us to share ideas from his book and dialogue with participants, and was the perfect speaker to launch Exploring the New!
