Vaxfacts: This was the first time St Kilda and Geelong had faced off in a VFL/AFL Grand Final.

William Ellis Green, better known as WEG, the former Melbourne Herald cartoonist, passed away in December 2008. WEG's VFL/AFL Grand Final Victory posters had been a Melbourne staple since 1954. This was the first Grand Final since his passing, and as such the first year that the Victory Poster was not drawn by him, rather by Herald Sun cartoonist Mark Knight.
