hey guys! on weekend wankshop 163, i'm gonna be answering a question you all have been asking me forever... how the hell does Brent Hinds play that crazy hybrid picked intro riff in Octopus Has No Friends by Mastodon?!?! Well i figured out the REAL way to play it, and i'm here to say, its weird. And complicated.

There are ZERO accurate tabs or lessons on this one. All of them i've seen have you playing in positions that Brent doesn't use, like going down to the 2nd fret on the B string, or using picking patterns that aren't consistent with his style. Mastodon stuff is VERY hard to figure out due to the amount of open strings and fretted unison notes they use, as well as their strange hybrid picking patterns and all that. That's why no transcribing software can figure this stuff out. Its very easy to make mistakes while figuring out their stuff, but thankfully for you all, i'm obsessed with this stuff and watched a million live videos and cracked it down!
Take your time with this one. Its not easy.
