After a groundbreaking year regarding the DPRK’s diplomacy, Kim Jong Un goes into 2019 with momentum from last year’s progress. The Republic of Korea has stopped referring to the DPRK as an “enemy” in the latest defense white paper for the first time since 2010. Meanwhile, it’s speculated that a second Trump-Kim summit is imminent, possibly taking place in Vietnam, which was suggested by the US as a role model for the DPRK. So what can we expect in inter-Korean relations going forward? Will Trump and Kim take practical steps towards denuclearization and usher in a new era for the Korean Peninsula?
