To use Simpson's one-third rule the interval of integration [a b] is divided into an even number n of subintervals of equal width h so that

h = (b - a) / n

The values of the function f(x) at the endpoints and midpoints of each subinterval are then used to construct quadratic interpolating polynomials over each pair of adjacent subintervals.
