Preservation: An Essential Response to the Housing Affordability Challenge

As housing costs reach unprecedented levels amid a shortage of affordable homes across the U.S., preserving the existing stock of affordable housing is more important than ever. Programs like the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and HUD’s Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) have already helped preserve hundreds of thousands of affordable rental homes nationwide, and new initiatives like the Neighborhood Homes Investment Act could further expand resources for affordable housing preservation.
