Panasonic LUMIX GH4 | Journey To Find The PERFECT YouTube Studio Camera

In this video, I continue my journey to find the perfect YouTube studio camera, looking at the Panasonic Lumix GH4. Here’s the story.

The Panasonic Lumix GH4 was released in 2014 and is a mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera.
It has a 16MP micro 4/3 sensor which can record 4K video up to 30fps in 8-bit internally and 1080 HD video up to 96fps.

Stand out features are a maximum bit rate of 200mbps in 1080 25p, 100Mbps in 4K 30p, it can also shoot Cinema 4K in 24p if that’s important to you. It has focus peaking to help you nail your focus, zebra highlight warnings to help you nail your exposure, a flip LCD touch screen so you can see yourself when recording, time code, and a great battery life.
But if you’re recording in a studio and don’t want to worry about replacing batteries all the time, you can purchase a dummy battery like I did off eBay and have the camera run directly off mains power, which would be my recommendation.

Unlike other more modern cameras, the GH4 has no in-built image stabilization… so if you are doing handheld shots, it’s best to use a lens that has image stabilization built in, otherwise you’ll get micro-jitters which is not a good look. Keep in mind though, if you’re only recording video from a tripod, you’ve got nothing to worry about.
It has a single sd card slot and no recording time limit.

You can easily pick up a GH4 camera second hand these days. I got this setup off eBay for $999 Australian dollars, which included the camera body, a Lumix 12-35mm F2.8 lens, a battery and charger.
