The chant of "Queenslander... Queenslander..." has inspired many of State of Origin's greatest efforts against the odds. After decades of NSW teams choosing players contracted in the lucrative NSWRL, State of Origin came along in 1980 and, at long last, made the contest fair. Queenslanders banded together to take revenge. Fatty Vautin led the way and the chant was born.
During the infamous Game 2 in 1989, the chant became legendary. When the Maroons had player after player fall to injury and exhaustion set in, they rallied behind the "Queenslander" chant to notch their most inspiring victory.
