The town of La Herradura is relatively small with a population of about 30,000, mainly Spanish but with a good number of foreigners who have chosen to make this their home - or at least a second home, it is a great place to spend the winter months.

Le Herradura is a peaceful seaside town, perfect for a relaxing beach holiday. The village, just one headland and 4 kilometres west of the large town of Almuñécar, has only one purpose, to satisfy the visitor that wants peace and quiet.

With only about 4,000 residents, 9 Hotels and a couple of Pensions the small village backs onto a 2 kilometre long beach made up of sand and pebbles. Two headlands provide shelter, to the north west is Cerro Gordo and to the south east Punta de la Mona. Off the latter the snorkelling and diving is very good. All the action is on the seafront with restaurants, bars and occasional shops. You will not find a night club or disco but with the resort facing south west all the bars are ‘sundowners’.

La Herradura is the second centre of the town of Almuñécar.

History
La Herradura is an old town, but young in spirit. Its natural features, such as the natural harbour formed by its bay, sheltered in the east by the Punta de la Mona point and to the west by the Cerro Gordo, have made this place a strategic enclave for the transit of sea-going expeditions to different civilisations throughout its history.

The nearest airport to La Herradura is Granada (GRX) Airport which is 50.2 km away. Other nearby airports include Malaga (AGP) (67.5 km), Almeria (LEI) (122.3 km) and Melilla (MLN) (176.6 km).
