A cheating case has been registered in Ahmedabad after unidentified people tricked a bullion firm owner out of Rs 1.60 crore using fake currency notes with actor Anupam Kher’s picture.

The complaint was filed by Mehul Thakkar, who owns a bullion firm in the Manek Chowk area of Ahmedabad. Thakkar was approached by some individuals who claimed they wanted to buy 2,100 grams of gold.

On 24th September, Thakkar’s employees delivered the gold at a courier firm in Navrangpura, where two of the accused were present. The accused handed over a plastic bag, claiming it contained Rs 1.30 crore in cash and asked the employees to count it.

However, while the employees were busy with the notes, the accused left, saying they would collect the remaining Rs 30 lakh from a nearby shop. When Thakkar’s employees checked the plastic bag, they found the notes were fake. These notes even had Anupam Kher’s picture instead of Mahatma Gandhi and carried the words "Resole Bank of India" instead of "Reserve Bank of India."

The Navrangpura police have registered a case based on Thakkar’s complaint. Inspector A A Desai revealed that the courier firm was also fake, and the accused had rented the space with a false promise of signing the rent agreement soon.

Images of the fake notes have since gone viral on social media, leaving people both shocked and amused. Even Anupam Kher found the situation humorous and shared his reaction on Instagram, writing, "My photo instead of Gandhi's photo on the note of five hundred???? Anything can happen."

No arrests have been made yet, and the investigation is ongoing.
