By 1790 the English grand piano took over from the harpsichord. In this episode of Piano Tales, two Broadwood pianos from 1792 and 1807 are being discussed. Joseph Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Chopin and many others played on Broadwood instruments.
Riko Fukuda plays George Frederick Pinto: Rondo from Sonata op. 3-2, and J. L. Dussek: Piano Sonata No. 24, op. 61, “Élégie Harmonique”, 1st Movement.

Edwin Beunk is an internationally acclaimed restorer and collector of early pianos. In the course of time it transpired that a new world opened up for many when they came to view the collection, amateur players, students, and professionals alike, even for some world famous pianists. Therefore Edwin Beunk decided to create a number of documentary films about the history of the early piano, in collaboration with filmmaker Patrick Drijver and pianist Riko Fukuda.
