The Supreme Court has given three months to the Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly to decide on petitions seeking the disqualification of 10 MLAs, who switched from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi to the Congress in 2023, under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution in three months.
The defections happened in 2023, and one of the ten MLAs even contested the 2024 lok sabha polls with a congress ticket.

A bench of Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chauhan said that the court cannot permit a situation of "operation successful but patient dead" by allowing the disqualification petitions to remain pending during the term of the assembly, which would allow the defectors to reap benefit of the delay.
