Lake Tsivlou is located on the slopes of Mount Chelmos,Greece,at an
altitude of 700 meters.
It was created on March 24 1913,when a large landslide caused in the area blocked the bed of the Krathis River.
The lake has a surface area of ​​approximately 83 acres and a depth of approximately 80 meters.Around and near the lake are the villages of Peristera,Agia Varvara,and Zarouchla(municipality of Aigialeia).
The name of the lake comes from the village of Tsivlos,which was partially submerged after the landslide.
Shortly before reaching the lake,you will see it among the pine and plane trees that cover the area.It will appear as a small water dot in the midst of mountainous tree-covered slopes which in winter are usually white with snow,thus giving an alpine feel and beauty to this rare mountainous place.
Today,Lake Tsivlou is a very important wetland that hosts many species of flora and fauna.
It is also a popular destination for recreation and walking.The banks of Lake Tsivlou are ideal for nature walks or even cycling excursions.
However,the best sporting activity for the more organized is none other than rowing on the lake's surface,albeit relatively small in size (200 acres) for this particular sport.
