Imagine, if you can inspect a 3d surface profile with a single camera set up to keep the cost of quality control(QC) minimal. Yes, that's possible with help of the laser triangulation technique.

The video shows a 2d camera with a line laser measuring the thickness of a washer. The washer is placed in front of the camera and laser light is projected to it. The camera observes the profile of the image and can determine the thickness of the washer.
