Eccoci alle "Murate" nome che deriva dal monastero delle suore di clausura (le "murate" appunto) costruito nel XV secolo e che dal 1830 circa al 1985 divenne il carcere (maschile) di Firenze. Quello che vedremo era il carcere duro (isolamento) nel quale, soprattutto durante la dittatura fascista, vennero detenuti e anche torturati esponenti politici come Errico Malatesta, Gaetano Salvemini, Alcide de Gasperi, Nello Rosselli e Carlo Levi. La condizioni di vita all'interno di queste celle piccole e buie erano assolutamente inumane: praticamente prive di luce, aria e acqua. Alle pareti si sono conservati i disegni, gli slogan e le scritte lasciate dai detenuti. È possibile visitare le celle (quando sarà nuovamente possibile), in maniera gratuita, contattando il @musefirenze ; è una visita che vi consigliamo di fare assolutamente perché permette di entrare in un pezzo di storia recente del nostro paese e di immergersi in quello che era il vivere questo regime carcerario, e che oggi è diventato luogo di vita e arte. A rendere ancor più suggestiva e "vera" la visita c'è l’installazione artistica "Nuclei (vitali)" di Valeria Muledda. Here we are at the "Murate" name that derives from the monastery of the cloistered nuns (the "murate" in fact) built in the 15th century and which from around 1830 to 1985 became the (male) prison of Florence. What we will see was the hard prison (isolation) in which, especially during the fascist dictatorship, political exponents such as Errico Malatesta, Gaetano Salvemini, Alcide de Gasperi, Nello Rosselli and Carlo Levi were detained and also tortured. The living conditions inside these small, dark cells were absolutely inhumane: practically devoid of light, air and water. The drawings, slogans and writings left by the prisoners have been preserved on the walls. It is possible to visit the cells (when it will be possible again), for free, by contacting @musefirenze; it is a visit that we absolutely recommend you to do because it allows you to enter a piece of recent history of our country and to immerse yourself in what it was to live this prison regime, and which today has become a place of life and art. To make the visit even more suggestive and "real" there is the artistic installation "Nuclei (vitali)" by Valeria Muledda.
