Developed for the NZ Army in the late 90's. The vest was specifically designed for troops working in armored vehicles. They needed a vest that wouldn't get in the way while doing their job but would enable them to carry enough kit to survive should they have to bail out. These vests became popular with other troops who appreciated the stripped down minimalist design.
