I had the wonderful opportunity to teach a 3-hour workshop at George Brown College in Toronto. I taught at the program I used to attend as a student, the Institute without Boundaries.

I was given the task to give a high-level introduction to data visualization and help students grasp basic concepts. I was constantly reminded by the academic coordinator to not overwhelm the students. So, this workshop was very simple and to the point.

Given that I didn't have too much time with the students, I was inspired to deliver Alberto Cairo's message from his book How Charts Lie. I wanted the students to at least recognize that they need to question data visualization and not take it at face value. There's a lot of data presented to us on a daily basis. And once you dig into the data, you see that it's not as straightforward as the visualization makes it to be.
