The place has a history of over a thousand years. Jagadguru Sri Veerasimhasana Mahasamsthana Math entrenched in Suttur by Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Shivayogigalu has a long tradition of more than a millennium which has contributed to the great societal changes.

He made them realize the severity of war and ended their hostility. After this incident, at the request of King Raja Raja Chola, Adijagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi consented to institute a Math and brought peace and tranquillity in the region.
The lineage of Sri Math worked for the social and economic cause of the society upholding spiritual values and ideals. The establishment of JSS Mahavidyapeetha by the 23rd Pontiff of Sri Math, His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, augmented the realms of Srimath by taking up the multifarious activities.
