We don’t always have to stick to the basic salsa timing! There’re different things we can try when 1 2 3, 5 6 7 just won’t do: Today we’ll talk about syncopations and we’ll learn a shine to demonstrate it. Syncopations are the half beats in between the counts. We indicate them by writing "^" but by saying "and" (or "y" in Spanish): ^ 1 ^ 2 ^ 3 ^ 4 becomes AND 1 AND 2 AND 3 AND 4.
Today’s shine is called syncopated front steps (also called syncopated crossovers or syncopated suzy q), the counts for this shine are as follows: 1 ^ 2 ^ 3, 5 ^ 6 ^ 7. First we will cover the shine On2, then we'll switch to On1 and we'll finish by practicing to music.
