While there is no tropical system or wave in the Gulf, on July 8, 2019, there is a region of low pressure over Alabama and Georgia that has caused daily thunderstorms to flare up. That low pressure region will drift southward into the Gulf of Mexico where it will likely lead to a tropical depression or a tropical storm later in the week. It could also be a subtropical depression or subtropical storm which would be hybrids of regular low pressure and tropical low pressure.

Computer models have hinted at this for several days. Models are better but not perfect so it’s still too early to pinpoint where a center of a depression or tropical storm could be later in the week and when it might form, or how strong it could get, or how long it could last. RAIN is the most likely outcome from a tropical system forming in the Gulf later this week. Where that rain falls the most is unknown!

This setup is not unusual but models and high resolution satellites show us more, sooner, than ever before.
