Fencing the India-Myanmar border will hurt Naga sentiments and lead to conflict, shattering the peace in the region, Rising People's Party leader Joel Naga told EastMojo.

Questioning the claims that the Free Movement Regime would come to an end, Joel Naga said: "Why should the Modi government backtrack? This is the question which I want to ask the Indian government. Is it because Biren Singh said so?" asked Naga.

Criticising Manipur CM N Biren Singh and the way he has handled Manipur violence, Joel Naga said, "He should have put his house in order in the first place when the violence first broke out and even before the violence. It's because of his communal policies that this has happened. He dehumanized the Kukis as illegal immigrants and opium and drug dealers. In fact, he demonised the whole Zo-Kuki people and that is the reason why violence has been continuing in Manipur for eight months. We have also put out in our press release that because of his (Biren Singh's) incompetence that these things happened. Therefore, ther Government of India should be very wise and ensure that the fragile peace which is there in Nagaland should not be shattered because of Biren Singh's police."
