Rescue of a pet baby spider monkey

We were informed by our volunteers that they had met a baby spider monkey in town called Ivan. He was being introduced to them by his 'owner' and they were very proud to have him as a pet, and were showing him off to many people in town.

Andres and Nat went to check it out and saw him tied up in the back yard on the ground, under a blanket in the hot sun.

On this day we were lucky to have the support of the police and a member of council to help us to convince this woman to hand over the tiny spider monkey, who was wrapped up tightly in his blanket.
This can become a stereotypical behaviour for the baby monkeys and they depend heavily on the blanket.. it is a substitute for holding on tightly to their fury mother.
