WSA board member Rodrigo Assumpção, who also leads Brazil’s state data agency Dataprev, explained how eight thematic clusters—ranging from e-Government and Health to Culture & Heritage—provide a taxonomy for benchmarking impact. National experts first filter roughly 1 700 entries to identify the most mature, scalable solutions; an independent global jury then applies usability heuristics, inclusive-design metrics and evidence-based outcome tracking to elevate the strongest propositions, strengthening an international digital-public-good ecosystem.

Ab Manzar highlighted the Digital Empowerment Foundation’s role as India’s WSA partner and host of the 2025 Global Congress. DEF’s 2 000 SuchnaPreneur community information resource centres operate on a micro-enterprise model that trains rural women in service aggregation—e-governance entitlements, telehealth triage, fintech onboarding, cloud-based agri-advice—while levying nominal fees to ensure self-sustaining connectivity and device upkeep, a framework that has already touched more than 35 million people across 2 000 villages.

Recent WSA laureates illustrate the breadth of practical ingenuity: Kataki, a location-aware matching platform dubbed “Tinder for pickers,” orchestrates circular-economy logistics between households discarding recyclables and informal waste collectors, while an adaptive-pedagogy app for autistic learners integrates family dashboards and reinforcement algorithms to personalise cognitive therapy. With over half of entries now embedding machine-learning pipelines, judges are debating whether AI should become a dedicated track or remain a transversal dimension, underscoring AI For Good’s call to operationalise responsible, rights-based intelligence for a more equitable digital future
