I've seen a lot of forums asking how many rounds people can fit into a .30 and .50 cal ammo can. I was able to place 540 rounds on stripper clips and 650 loose rounds. I would recomend keeping it closer to 640. I can't be sure but I found two dented rounds and think I may have dented them when I closed the ammo can with too many rounds in it. If you listen closely you can actually hear it.
