XTC bass player and secondary songwriter Colin Moulding was the classic English underdog.

Less prolific than Andy Partridge, and less inclined to assert his control in the studio, he nevertheless penned a number of the band's biggest hits and radio favourites, many of which are the most listenable and loveable songs in the band's catalogue.
