Magdala | First Century Synagogue

Описание к видео Magdala | First Century Synagogue

Israel video tour with David Hyman and Ailon Tamir. The Ancient town of Migdal is on the western shores of Lake Kinneret ( The Sea of Galilee). The town was known from earlier excavations and from historic records, but in 2009 no one expected that under the ground, hidden for two thousand years, such a great treasure hides silently. The excavations were launched due to a building project by a Catholic organization from Jerusalem, planning to build a modern guest house on the shores of Lake Kinneret. But when the digging began, they revealed a large square building with benches on all sides facing inwards. in the center of the building, they found a stone table covered with designs and symbols - the Magdala Stone. This is the first time such a stone was revealed, it tells us much about the beliefs of the community who lived in the town and worshipped in the synagogue. The synagogue dates back to the early years of the first century AD and therefore it is possible the Jesus of Nazareth visited this exact site. This Israel video tour will tell the story of the ancient first-century synagogue, the Magdala Stone, and the many other finds at this extremely special site. We will visit the marketplace, the ritual baths ( Mikve), and then the church that was built overlooking the lake, Duc in Altum.
Special thanks to my great friend Ailon Tamir who joined me on this visit, his insights and comments were invaluable and his never-ending energy and humor during the recording, reminded me why we are friends for over 40 years, thanks Ailon.
