On the evening of May 5, 2025, in Springfield Township, Ohio, a traffic stop initiated by Officer Austin Branham of the Springfield Township Police Department on South Arlington Road led to drug charges after an unexpected discovery. The vehicle was stopped around 7:15 p.m. because the registered owner had an outstanding warrant and a suspended license. The driver, 55-year-old Victoria Vidal from Akron's Woodbirch Avenue, was detained without incident. Upon returning to the car, Officer Branham noticed a raccoon, named Chewy, in the driver's seat holding a methamphetamine pipe. This unusual observation prompted a more thorough search of the vehicle, which revealed a significant quantity of methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and three used meth pipes. Vidal was subsequently charged with felony drug possession, three counts of possessing drug paraphernalia, and cited for driving with a suspended license. She was also handed over to Cuyahoga Falls Police due to her existing warrant. Further charges related to the crack cocaine are pending lab analysis. Authorities were notified to verify the legality of owning the unharmed raccoon, Chewy.
