Exploring the Markets of Central, Hong Kong | Pottinger Street | 4K 60FPS Walking Tour

Описание к видео Exploring the Markets of Central, Hong Kong | Pottinger Street | 4K 60FPS Walking Tour

This walk starts on Pedder Street in Central, Hong Kong, before wrapping around Queen's Road and Des Voeux Road through the Li Yuen Street markets (both east and west), later scaling the Pottinger Street steps to Wyndham Street. We'll pass landmarks including the Lan Kwai Fong Amphitheatre ( 15:42 ) and the Foreign Correspondents' Club ( 25:38 ), ending at the last remaining gas lamps in the city on Duddell Street ( 29:13 ).

My girlfriend tells me she called Pottinger Street the Diagon Alley of Hong Kong when she was a kid. And it's easy to see why it'd feel a little magical: The crooked stone steps feel unlike the rest of the city surrounding them. In fact, I'd say this video in general highlights a lot of the best things about HK to me.

The mixture of street markets and skyscrapers is such a cool and unique thing to me as a lot of cities try and keep that stuff separate either through zoning or just denying licences to traders in commercial districts. It's all organic, too; for example, the glut of tailors and shoe repair shops arose to serve the office workers in the area with cost effective services they could use in a pinch.

Filmed using Panasonic GH5S with a DJI Mini 3 gimbal in June 2023. Yes! I know! Late!

Postscript: I fell down the stairs at 26:41 a few years ago. Still a bit sore from that one. These stone steps are beautiful but they get super slick when it begins to rain!
