During the Mėnuo Juodaragis festival, which is an exceptional event in North East Lithuania, the region known for traditional beer brewing, the folk tradition, history and craft beer comes together, as Vykintas Motuza brews an experimental stone heated beer. With the help of a friend Artūras Masiliauskas and wife, Kristina Motuzienė, using hand-made vessels, he recreates the proces of traditional brewing inspired by local traditions. With the help of the unique Lithuanian kveik-like yeast, the beer is fermented in 16 hours from adding a dry wooden ring.

Vikintas is also organizing an event called Sekminiu Sambariai that is created to preserve and to promote the old brewing traditions. He was kind enough to tell me abut the process and more about the Lithuanian tradition and customs.
